Consent to Telehealth Services

Last updated: October 19, 2026

Consent for Remote Physiotherapy Services

Dystonia Virtual Clinic, operated by DRP Health & Education, Lda., provides specialised physiotherapy services through secure online consultations (telehealth).

Before participating in remote physiotherapy services, please read the following information carefully.

Your informed consent is required before receiving online physiotherapy services.

What Are Remote Physiotherapy Services?

Remote physiotherapy allows you to receive individualised assessment, guidance, education and rehabilitation planning from a qualified physiotherapist through secure communication technologies, without attending an in-person appointment.

These services are intended to facilitate access to specialised care for people living with dystonia.

All clinical sessions are delivered remotely by appropriately qualified physiotherapists practising from Portugal.

Suitability of Remote Care

Remote physiotherapy is suitable for many people. However, it may not be appropriate for every patient or every clinical situation.

Your physiotherapist will use their professional clinical judgement to determine whether remote care is suitable for your individual circumstances.

Where necessary, you may be advised to seek:

  • an in-person physiotherapy assessment;

  • an assessment by your doctor or neurologist;

  • emergency medical assistance; or

  • treatment from another appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Limitations of Remote Physiotherapy

You understand that remote physiotherapy differs from an in-person consultation.

Because your physiotherapist is not physically present, certain assessments or manual examination techniques cannot be performed. This may limit the physiotherapist's ability to fully assess certain aspects of your condition.

If your physiotherapist determines that an in-person assessment is necessary, you will be informed and advised to seek appropriate local care.

Risks of Telehealth

Although every effort is made to provide safe and effective care, remote healthcare services have certain inherent limitations and risks, including:

  • limitations arising from the absence of a physical examination;

  • interruptions caused by internet connectivity problems or technical failures;

  • delays or interruptions in communication; and

  • the possibility that remote care may not be appropriate for certain clinical situations.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic will make reasonable efforts to minimise these risks through appropriate professional procedures and secure communication platforms.

Confidentiality and Privacy

Your consultation will be conducted using appropriate communication technologies.

Your personal information will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Clinical records will be maintained in accordance with applicable legal and professional requirements.

Emergencies

Remote physiotherapy is not an emergency medical service.

If you experience:

  • severe or sudden neurological symptoms;

  • chest pain;

  • difficulty breathing;

  • loss of consciousness;

  • a serious injury; or

  • any other medical emergency;

you should immediately contact the emergency services available in your location or attend the nearest emergency department.

Do not use scheduled online consultations as a means of obtaining emergency medical assistance.

Your Responsibilities

By participating in remote physiotherapy services, you agree to:

  • provide accurate and complete information about your health;

  • inform your physiotherapist of any significant changes in your medical condition;

  • actively participate in your rehabilitation within your physical capabilities;

  • stop any activity that causes severe pain, dizziness, loss of balance or other concerning symptoms and immediately inform your physiotherapist; and

  • ensure, whenever possible, that you participate in consultations from a safe and suitable environment.

Patient Location During Telehealth Consultations

Dystonia Virtual Clinic provides remote clinical services from Portugal to patients physically located in territories where these services are available, as described in our Terms of Service.

To ensure that services are provided only in permitted territories, patients are required to declare the country where they will be physically located at the time of their appointment.

By consenting to remote physiotherapy services, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • You will be physically located in a territory where the service is available at the time of each consultation.

  • The information you provide regarding your physical location is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge.

  • You will inform Dystonia Virtual Clinic if your location changes before your appointment.

  • You will confirm your physical location, including your country and city or locality, when requested by your physiotherapist at the beginning of each consultation.

  • You understand that your declared location will be recorded in your clinical record and may be communicated to local emergency services when necessary for your protection.

If you are located outside a territory where the service is available, the consultation may need to be rescheduled or cancelled in accordance with our Terms of Service and applicable law.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic does not use IP-based geolocation or continuous location tracking to verify patients' physical locations.

Your Right to Ask Questions

We encourage you to ask any questions about your treatment, the use of telehealth or any other aspect of your care before or during your consultation.

Your physiotherapist will make reasonable efforts to ensure that you understand the nature of the services being provided.

Withdrawal of Consent

Participation in remote physiotherapy services is voluntary.

You may withdraw your consent to receive remote healthcare services at any time by notifying Dystonia Virtual Clinic.

Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of healthcare services already provided. However, withdrawing your consent may prevent Dystonia Virtual Clinic from continuing to provide you with remote physiotherapy services.

Professional Standards

Dystonia Virtual Clinic is an independent healthcare provider established in Portugal.

The clinic is registered with the Portuguese Health Regulatory Authority (Entidade Reguladora da Saúde – ERS) as a telemedicine healthcare establishment under registration number E184371.
