2. Healthcare Services

Physiotherapy services are professional healthcare services delivered by appropriately qualified healthcare professionals operating from Portugal.

The nature and scope of the services provided depend on the patient's individual circumstances, rehabilitation needs, suitability for remote care and the clinical judgement of the treating physiotherapist.

Participation in Dystonia Virtual Clinic services does not guarantee any particular clinical outcome, symptom reduction, improvement or recovery.

Responses to rehabilitation may vary considerably between individuals.

3. Eligibility and Minimum Age

Dystonia Virtual Clinic provides clinical physiotherapy services exclusively to individuals aged 18 years or older.

By booking a clinical appointment or registering for a clinical group physiotherapy programme, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age and are legally entitled to enter into the relevant service agreement.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic reserves the right to refuse or cancel a clinical booking where the patient does not meet the minimum age requirement.

Eligibility requirements for educational seminars and other non-clinical activities may be specified separately in the applicable event information.

4. Online Physiotherapy

Online physiotherapy sessions are delivered remotely through videoconferencing technologies.

Before or during treatment, the physiotherapist may assess whether remote physiotherapy is clinically appropriate for you.

In certain circumstances, online treatment may not be suitable.

Where appropriate, you may be advised to seek:

  • An in-person physical assessment;

  • Assessment by your neurologist or doctor;

  • Additional diagnostic investigations;

  • Emergency medical care or local medical assistance;

  • Treatment by another healthcare professional.

The treating physiotherapist retains professional clinical judgement to refuse, modify, suspend or discontinue treatment when appropriate for patient safety, clinical reasons, professional obligations or applicable regulatory requirements.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic does not provide in-person clinical appointments.

5. International Patients and Territorial Availability

Dystonia Virtual Clinic provides physical therapy services remotely from Portugal, in accordance with applicable Portuguese healthcare legislation and under the supervision of the Portuguese Health Regulatory Authority (ERS).

Online physical therapy services are available to eligible adult patients who are physically located in an authorised territory of a European Union (EU) Member State at the time of each appointment.

The eligible countries comprise the 27 EU Member States, subject to territorial exceptions, applicable legal and professional requirements, clinical suitability, and the geographical scope of our professional liability insurance.

Certain territories associated with EU Member States have a special legal status and are not automatically included in the geographical availability of our clinical services.

These include, among others:

  • Åland Islands;

  • Northern Cyprus, in areas where EU law is suspended;

  • Akrotiri and Dhekelia;

  • Greenland and the Faroe Islands;

  • Certain French overseas countries and territories, including French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Saint Barthélemy and the French Southern and Antarctic Lands;

  • Caribbean territories associated with the Netherlands, including Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.

Patients intending to attend an appointment from a territory with special legal status should contact Dystonia Virtual Clinic before booking to confirm whether clinical services can lawfully be provided and are covered by our professional liability insurance.

Physical therapy services are not currently offered to patients physically located outside the authorised EU territories, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

Patient Location Declaration

During the booking process, patients must declare the country in which they expect to be physically located at the time of their appointment.

Patients are responsible for providing accurate information and notifying Dystonia Virtual Clinic if their location changes before the scheduled appointment.

At the beginning of each clinical session, the physiotherapist will request verbal confirmation of the patient's current country and city or locality.

The declared location will be recorded in the patient's clinical record in accordance with applicable privacy and healthcare requirements.

Location verification is based on the information declared by the patient. Dystonia Virtual Clinic does not use IP-based geolocation or continuous location tracking to verify patients' physical locations.

If a patient is located outside an authorised territory, the clinical session will not proceed and will be rescheduled or the payment refunded, as appropriate and in accordance with applicable law.

Non-clinical educational activities are distinct from physical therapy services and may be subject to separate territorial eligibility conditions and applicable legal requirements.

6. Initial Consultation

Dystonia Virtual Clinic offers an initial clinical consultation lasting approximately 30 minutes.

The initial consultation is a clinical physiotherapy appointment during which the physiotherapist collects, reviews and documents essential information about the patient's health, condition and rehabilitation needs.

The consultation may include:

  • Reviewing the patient's medical and neurological history, including any existing diagnoses;

  • Gathering information about current symptoms, their progression and their impact on daily activities;

  • Identifying functional limitations and movement-related difficulties;

  • Reviewing previous treatments, rehabilitation experiences and responses to treatment;

  • Discussing the patient's rehabilitation needs, concerns and goals;

  • Conducting an initial clinical assessment appropriate to the remote consultation format;

  • Evaluating the suitability of online physiotherapy for the patient's individual circumstances;

  • Discussing initial clinical recommendations and appropriate next steps.

Most of the patient's initial clinical information is collected and documented in their clinical record during this consultation.

Additional assessment, clarification or further clinical evaluation may be necessary during subsequent physiotherapy sessions.

The initial consultation forms part of the patient's clinical care. However, it does not replace a medical diagnosis, emergency medical care or an in-person assessment when clinically indicated.

Current standard price: €45 for a 30-minute initial consultation.

The applicable price will be displayed at the time of booking.

Prices may be modified in the future. Any change will not affect appointments already booked and paid for, except where otherwise agreed or required by law.

7. Individual Online Physiotherapy Sessions

Individual online physiotherapy sessions currently last approximately 60 minutes.

These sessions may include individualised assessment, therapeutic guidance, movement-based rehabilitation, education and other physiotherapy interventions considered appropriate by the treating physiotherapist within their professional scope of practice.

Current standard price: €90 for a 60-minute individual physiotherapy session.

The applicable price will be displayed at the time of booking.

Prices may be modified in the future. Any change will not affect appointments already booked and paid for, except where otherwise agreed or required by law.

8. Online Group Physiotherapy Programmes

Dystonia Virtual Clinic offers online group physiotherapy programmes consisting of packages of clinical physiotherapy sessions delivered remotely by qualified physiotherapists to small groups of patients.

These programmes are healthcare services and form part of Dystonia Virtual Clinic's clinical physiotherapy activities.

Programmes may focus on specific manifestations of dystonia, rehabilitation needs or functional difficulties.

Depending on the programme, sessions may include:

  • Physiotherapist-guided movement and rehabilitation exercises;

  • Therapeutic movement and motor control activities;

  • Rehabilitation strategies appropriate to the participants' needs;

  • Education relating to dystonia and movement rehabilitation;

  • Demonstrations and supervised practice;

  • Guidance on safe participation in rehabilitation activities;

  • Opportunities to ask questions and discuss relevant rehabilitation concerns.

Because these sessions take place in a group setting, the level of individual assessment and guidance may differ from that provided during individual physiotherapy consultations.

Participation is subject to clinical suitability, the applicable age requirements and any relevant territorial restrictions.

The treating physiotherapist may recommend that a participant modify or discontinue an activity, undergo an individual assessment or seek additional healthcare when clinically appropriate.

Cancellations and Refunds

Registrations for online group programmes are fully refundable if the cancellation request is submitted at least 48 hours before the scheduled date and start time of the first session.

To receive a full refund, the cancellation must be received no later than 48 hours before the programme begins.

If you request cancellation less than 48 hours before the start of the programme, you will receive a 75% refund of the amount paid.

Cancellations received after the programme's scheduled start date and time will not be refunded, except where required by applicable law.

In the exceptional event that we need to cancel a programme due to circumstances beyond our control, we will make every reasonable effort to inform participants as far in advance as possible. Participants may choose to transfer their registration to another available programme or receive a full refund of the amount paid.

Nothing in this cancellation and refund policy affects any mandatory patient or consumer rights under applicable law.

9. Bookings

Appointments and group programmes may be booked through Squarespace Scheduling or another booking system identified on our website.

You are responsible for providing accurate and complete information when making a booking.

This may include:

  • Your name;

  • Email address;

  • Telephone number;

  • Country of residence;

  • Physical location relevant to the provision of telehealth services;

  • Appointment-related information;

  • Other information reasonably necessary to assess or provide the requested service.

A booking is considered confirmed when you receive confirmation through our booking system or directly from Dystonia Virtual Clinic.

Booking confirmation does not override any applicable legal, regulatory, professional or clinical requirement that may affect our ability to provide the service.

10. Time Zones

Online appointments may be booked by patients located in different time zones.

Our booking system normally displays availability according to the time zone selected or detected during the booking process.

You are responsible for checking that the appointment time corresponds to your local time.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic is not responsible for missed appointments resulting from an incorrect time-zone selection or interpretation by the patient, except where otherwise provided by applicable law.

11. Prices and Payment

Prices are displayed in euros (€).

The total applicable price, including any taxes legally due, will be shown before the patient or participant completes the booking and payment process.

Payments may be processed through Stripe, PayPal or another payment service provider identified during checkout.

Payment must be made in accordance with the conditions displayed during booking.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic does not receive or store complete debit or credit card details.

Payment processing is also subject to the terms and privacy practices of the relevant payment service provider.

The applicable VAT treatment depends on the nature of the service and relevant tax legislation.

Healthcare services that qualify for VAT exemption under Portuguese law will be invoiced accordingly. Educational or other non-clinical services may be subject to different tax treatment.

12. Individual Appointment Cancellation and Rescheduling

We understand that appointments may occasionally need to be changed.

Unless different conditions are expressly communicated before booking, the following cancellation policy applies to individual clinical appointments, without prejudice to mandatory legal rights.

Individual Appointments

Appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled without charge if at least 24 hours' notice is provided.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged in full, subject to applicable law and the circumstances of the cancellation.

Missed Appointments

If you fail to attend a scheduled appointment without prior cancellation, the appointment may be considered missed and the payment may not be refundable, subject to applicable law.

Late Arrivals

If you join an appointment late, it may still end at the originally scheduled time so as not to affect subsequent appointments.

Cancellation by Dystonia Virtual Clinic

If Dystonia Virtual Clinic needs to cancel an appointment, you will normally be offered an alternative appointment or a refund of the amount paid for the affected service.

Nothing in this section excludes any mandatory rights available under applicable law.

13. Educational Seminars and Workshops

In addition to clinical physiotherapy services, Dystonia Virtual Clinic may offer educational seminars, workshops and other non-clinical activities relating to dystonia and rehabilitation.

These activities are educational in nature and are distinct from individual or group clinical physiotherapy services.

Participation in an educational seminar does not, by itself, constitute an individual physiotherapy assessment or establish a clinical treatment relationship.

Educational seminars and workshops may be scheduled for specific dates, and participants may register in advance.

The applicable registration, cancellation and refund conditions will be communicated before booking.

Consumer Withdrawal Rights

Where applicable, consumers have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days of its conclusion, without providing a reason.

The applicability of this right depends on the legal nature of the service and any relevant statutory exceptions.

Where the statutory right of withdrawal applies, the withdrawal period begins on the date the booking contract is concluded, rather than on the date of the seminar.

Where an educational service is scheduled to begin during the applicable withdrawal period, any requirements relating to an express request for early performance and acknowledgement of the possible loss of withdrawal rights will be observed in accordance with applicable law.

Following the expiry of any applicable statutory withdrawal period, cancellations and non-attendance will be governed by the conditions communicated before booking and any other mandatory legal rights.

If Dystonia Virtual Clinic cancels a paid educational seminar or workshop, participants will be entitled to the remedies and refunds required by applicable law.

Further information is available in our Cancellation & Refund Policy.

14. Technical Problems

Online consultations depend on functioning internet connections, compatible equipment and third-party technologies.

You are responsible for having:

  • An adequate internet connection;

  • A functioning camera and microphone;

  • A suitable device;

  • A reasonably private and appropriate environment.

If technical difficulties prevent a consultation from taking place, we will make reasonable efforts to restore the connection or reschedule the appointment where appropriate.

The appropriate solution will depend on the cause, duration and circumstances of the technical problem, as well as applicable legal rights.

15. Patient Responsibilities

By participating in physiotherapy services, you agree to:

  • Provide information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge;

  • Inform the healthcare professional of relevant diagnoses, injuries, medical conditions and other information reasonably relevant to your care;

  • Report significant changes in your health when relevant to treatment;

  • Follow safety instructions provided during consultations;

  • Stop activities if symptoms or circumstances make them potentially unsafe;

  • Seek appropriate medical assistance when necessary.

During remote sessions, you remain responsible for your immediate physical environment.

Where activities involve standing or moving, you should ensure that sufficient space is available and remove obstacles or other potential sources of falls or injury.

Where reasonably appropriate, the healthcare professional may recommend that another person remain nearby during a session for safety reasons.

16. Medical Emergencies

Dystonia Virtual Clinic is not an emergency medical service.

The website, booking system, email and online consultations must not be used to request urgent medical assistance.

If you experience severe, sudden or potentially life-threatening symptoms, contact the emergency medical services available in your location.

17. Medical Diagnosis and Healthcare

Dystonia Virtual Clinic provides services within the professional scope of practice of the healthcare professionals involved.

Physiotherapy does not replace neurological care, medical diagnosis or other appropriate medical treatment.

Where appropriate, you may be advised to seek assessment or treatment from your doctor, neurologist or another healthcare professional.

18. No Guarantee of Results

Dystonia is a complex neurological condition, and responses to rehabilitation may vary.

We cannot guarantee:

20. Recording of Sessions

Patients and participants may not make audio or video recordings, take photographs, livestream or otherwise reproduce an individual session, group session, seminar, workshop or other event without prior authorisation, except where permitted by applicable law.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic will not record clinical sessions without an appropriate legal basis and, where required, the patient's prior consent.

Different conditions may apply where a seminar, workshop or other event is expressly announced as being recorded.

21. Conduct and Confidentiality in Group Sessions

Participants are expected to behave respectfully towards other participants, healthcare professionals, organisers and staff.

Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, abusive behaviour, unauthorised recordings and deliberate disruption are not permitted.

Dystonia Virtual Clinic reserves the right to exclude a participant when reasonably necessary to protect others, in accordance with applicable law.

During group sessions, participants may hear personal information or experiences shared by others.

All participants are expected to respect the privacy and confidentiality of other participants.

However, Dystonia Virtual Clinic cannot guarantee that every participant will maintain confidentiality.

Existing confirmed bookings will be managed according to the conditions applicable to them and any mandatory rights established by applicable law.

26. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable Portuguese or European law, including applicable healthcare patient and consumer rights.
